Does. Not. Matter. All external hard drives will perform virtually the same.

If you have the cash, look for a SSD (solid state drive). These drives are expensive, very expensive, but offer a much higher performance than normal hard drives. Just look for something that can fit your laptop's hard drive specifications (e.g. 2.5", SATA) and you'll be able to just fit it right in. The Intel SSDs are currently the more popular ones (e.g. Intel X25m) Alternatively, just get a normal hard drive such as a SATA 500GB. 5400rpm or 7200rpm, doesn't really make a big difference.

What hard drive do I need for my Sony Vaio?

What hard drive do I need for my Sony Vaio?
My Sony Vaio laptop was knocked off the table and now the hard drive is destroyed. I need a new one but I don't know what kinds are compatible, etc. The model is PCD-71314L. Also, how hard is it to install it myself if I've never done it before? Do I need to get someone else to do it for me?

I found a good deal on Newegg.com for a compatible hard drive for your laptop. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136197 I always choose Western Digital as it has the best statistical reliability. Installing the hard drive is relatively straight forward, there should be a panel on the bottom or bottom/side of the laptop with one or more screws holding it in place. After you find and remove it, its simply a matter of sliding the old drive out, removing the hardware (usually a bracket and maybe a conenctor) from the old drive, switching it over to the new one, and installing the new drive. Be warned you will have to re-install the operating system as the new hard drive will be completely blank.

Google the model number, it will tell you. Modern hard drives are all the same, just a capacity difference. Yes, you can change it yourself, easily. But, do you have a copy of the OS?

Sony Vaio laptop who can tell me where to put in the memory card from my digital camera?

Does anyone have a Sony Vaio laptop who can tell me where to put in the memory card from my digital camera?
I'm totally electronics-retarded. I just got my first digital camera and want to upload the pictures onto my laptop, a Sony Vaio, but I can't find where to put the memory card into the laptop. I've seen it done in friends' laptops but cannot find it on mine. I guess if worse comes to worse I can use the cord thingy & plug the camera in but I'd like to be able to use the memory card as well. Can anyone help me locate the spot where I insert the memory card?

Do you have a built in card reader in your laptop? If not then you will have to buy an "all-in-one card reader with USB connection" to connect to your laptop. Check out your local computer shop, it's a very common item.
2 :
not all laptops have mem stick port including vaio's. is faster just to plug the sd card than connect the cam, go to frys they have mem card readers 4 6 bucks
